Greetings to our family and friends,
We have arrived in Teguc. All are healthy & doing well.
It was difficult to leave Santa Cruz this morning and all of our new and many of our old friends. Many people from the village came up to our "compound" to say goodbye to us this morning. Please be patient with your kids when they arrive back home. Many of them are still processing this experience & it may take awhile before they are able to articulate all of it. All of them have been affected by this trip in one way or the other. Your kids integrated themselves into the community in many ways. The community noticed that they were very kind to and respectful of everyone (including their leaders). It was fun to see them playing games with our guard. He in turn cut raw sugar cane for them as a treat.
Yesterday, we went back up to the clinic with some of them & at their suggestion, repainted the sign on Dr. Vides' clinic that was vandalized. We had a little black paint left over from painting in the pre-school. It was nice to get to spend some time at the clinic and to learn from Dr. V about his practice and how long he has been in Santa Cruz serving the people there.
We also spent time yesterday going around in the community passing out the beanie babies and the hats that were donated. We were able to go to the kindergarten & teach a little English, numbers & letters. We gave the children there some beanie babies & hats, too. We passed out pieces of paper with verses that the kids picked out and found out at suppertime that those were already taped up on the walls of some of the homes.
Other than that, we've all had hot showers today, which was really nice. We spent a little time at the mall having lunch and shopping. We're going to the Valley of the Angels tomorrow to do some authentic shopping.
Continue to keep us in your prayers. We will see you all on Friday.
