Owner's Notes

From Dave...
"How can you not love Sam? " This quote came from one of our youth group kids and boy was she right.

Sam is a great dog. She is extremely trainable and very eager to please. She is a great athlete in a not-so-great athlete's body. She's as happy curled up watching a football game with you as she is running on birds. Well, maybe not quite as happy.

Sam is the dog in the household that will curl up with anyone on the couch and just be there for them. This happens with the youth group kids that come over to the house or with the people that are checking the dogs out for rescue. People just seem to love Sam.

We started field training Sam when she was about six months old. I didn't know a whole lot about training a pointing dog for field work, but Sam also didn't know much about being a pointing dog, so we worked out quite well together.

In the field Sam is probably a better dog to train with than to compete with. We run her with all the other dogs as she will push them, but not too hard. She will work birds with the best dogs out there and is steady on point for any amount of time. She will back, she will stop to flush and she will retrieve. She is great with the new dogs and will push the veterans enough to keep them honest.

Around the house Sam is a buddy dog that anyone would love to have around. She loves to curl up and take a nap with you or take long walks. After some initial pulling and tugging she settles in nicely to a good walking pace, even though she probably walks four times the distance that you walk.

I'm looking forward to a lot of great hunting seasons with Sam and whatever dog she has help train.
