From Dave...
Charles came to us a little later in life. I think he was about
10 months old when he arrived. We wanted a second dog to help keep
Maggie company and also to get us into doing dog shows. Charles
fit this bill perfectly.
Maggie wasn't particularly fond of other dogs so we knew that
it would be pretty interesting finding another pup that would fit
into the house. Well we went to a breeders house to visit with
her about a possible future litter and gain some perspective in
the Brittany world. After all, we were very new at this game. When
we walked in the house Maggie immediately took to Charles. They
wrestled and played like we hadn't seen with her and any other
dog. We knew we had a winner.
Charles is a great dog and probably the best show dog we will
ever own. He is so at home in the ring and in front of the crowd
it was just unreal. He loved having people clap for him; it seemed
to put him into a different gear in the show ring.
Charles is also a great dog around the house. He defends his girls
from all who may hurt them. He is Amy's best buddy and stalker.
Anywhere she is, he won't be far from her.
Charles and I have had an interesting relationship. When Amy is
home, I'm pretty sure up until a couple years ago, I was invisible.
When she was away from home on a trip or not home for a couple
days, all of a sudden he wanted to have "guy days" together and
we were going to be best friends.
Over the past couple of years we have bonded a bit more, mainly
because I began taking him down to the farm to run. I don't think
that we ever realized the potential the Charles had in the field.
He loves to run and is great at it (even at 14.5 years old). He
has an enthusiasm for running and finding birds that I just wish
we would have known about sooner. Would he have been a field champion?
No. Would he have been a good huntin' dawg? Definitely.
Charles is the total package as far as a dog. He is a great competitor
who gives you everything in the ring and in the field. He is a
terrific pet to have around the house and he is an excellent breed
representative. I doubt that there will ever be another dog like
him. |
